Accessibility Parking

In order to park in authorized ADA/Handicap spaces on campus, students or employees with valid state-handicapped placards are required to register with the LSU Parking & Transportation Services Offices. Individuals must complete the ADA Registration Form or bring a copy of their handicapped identification card, driver’s license, and Mobility ID/paperwork in for verification.

To gain access to authorized ADA/Handicap spaces on campus, students and employees must register their state-issued handicapped placard with LSU Parking & Transportation Services (PTS). Registration requires completion of the ADA Registration Form

Students and employees who register valid ADA credentials with the Parking Office will be eligible for an ADA Permit, which grants access to all ADA-designated spaces across campus, as well as B, A/Commuter, Park & Geaux, and X lots. The validity of the ADA Permit is directly tied to the expiration date of the ADA placard. If the placard expires prior to the permit’s expiration date of August 14, 2026, parking privileges will be suspended until updated ADA credentials are provided to the Parking Office. Individuals who do not intend to renew their ADA credentials are responsible for visiting the Parking Office to exchange their ADA Permit for a permit appropriate to their classification.

ADA Permit holders will be required to purchase a gate device for $30 (deposit). This card will grant the permit holder access to ADA spaces within the Core of Campus.

Please note: Possession of an ADA Permit alone does not authorize parking in accessible spaces; the vehicle must also display a valid ADA placard issued by the state.

The Office of Parking & Transportation Services provides short-term parking accommodation for students and employees with temporary mobility-related disabilities (lasting less than 3 months).

How to Apply

Please complete the Temporary Medical Request Form. A verified letter/note from your physician must be attached to the application, that verifies the amount of time within 3 months that you will need temporary medical parking accommodations.

Once approved, you may use designated Temporary Medical Parking spaces.

Long-Term Needs

If your condition lasts more than 3 months, please apply with your physician for a state-issued mobility-impaired license plate or hang tag through the Office of Motor Vehicles. ADA information and the ADA form can be found here, ADA Registration Form.

Important Temporary Medical Parking Rules

• Temporary Medical permits do NOT allow parking in handicapped spaces unless you have a state-issued placard or license plate registered in your name.

• Parking in B Zones is not permitted with a Temporary Medical permit.

• Space is limited: Approval does not guarantee a Temporary Medical space will be available.

• If no Temporary Medical spaces are available, you must park in your assigned permit zone or use the Park & Geaux lot.

LSU Parking & Transportation Services offers a Paratransit service to support students and employees registered through the appropriate university channels in traveling from campus parking areas to their destinations with ease. This service utilizes wheelchair-accessible vehicles operated by trained drivers who prioritize both safety and comfort. The Paratransit program is designed to provide individuals with mobility challenges a reliable and convenient transportation option, promoting greater accessibility, independence, and engagement across campus.
