Every year, students from across LSU’s colleges participate in study abroad programs, living and learning at global destinations while earning credit toward their LSU degrees. This summer, our team caught up with two LSU students – Amanda Carambat and Lindsey LaFleur – who recently returned from a semester in Paris. Amanda and Lindsey shared how their experiences in France are now benefiting their career steps in Louisiana, imparting newfound confidence and fresh inspiration.

Forty-nine students from the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Completed the eighth cohort of the Venture Capital Apprentice Program, which was formed by Nexus Louisiana, Innovation Catalyst and the Red Stick Angel Network in collaboration with E. Three LSU students won the $20,000 first-place reward in the J Terrel Brown Venture Challenge with their new project, "FarmSmart."
FarmSmart, an AI-powered platform connecting modern professional farming and recreational gardening communities to tailored, high-quality information on crop management, won the 2024 J Terrell Brown Venture Challenge. The first-place finish came with a $20,000 award.
In the dynamic landscape of technological innovation, the birth of new industries often hinges on groundbreaking inventions. However, not all inventions are created equally in shaping the trajectory of these budding industries. A recent research study co-authored by Rucks Department of Management Assistant Professor Charlotte Jacobs sheds light on a crucial question: Do inventions from startups or established firms have a more significant impact on driving subsequent innovations within emerging industries?
