Student Attendance Verification

As part of our implementation of Workday Student, and in support of institutional and federal requirements, we are verifying student attendance or participation in all courses for the current term using the Teaching Dashboard application in Workday. This process helps ensure the accuracy of enrollment records for all students and supports compliance with federal regulations, including those related to financial aid. This verification process is essential to maintaining accurate academic records and supporting student success.

Deadline
Please confirm whether each student on your course roster has attended or participated in your class by the applicable census date:

  • LSU Online First Fall: Friday, August 29
  • Paul M. Hebert Law Center: Friday, September 5
  • LSU School of Veterinary Medicine: Friday, September 5
  • LSU A&M Campus: Friday, September 12
  • LSU Online Second Fall: Friday, October 24

Acceptable forms of attendance or participation include, but are not limited to:

  • Physical presence in class: For this option, you must generate some form of documentation for your records, for example, a sign-in sheet. You would also need to take attendance for each class until the deadline for an accurate count.
  • Participation in an academic-related activity: This does not have to be graded, but you will need to collect papers or electronic responses, such as Qualtrics or a discussion forum in Moodle.
  • Moodle Activity Report: Generate a log of activity in your Moodle Course using the Moodle Activity Report. Click here for instructions on how to generate an activity report.
  • Academic Engagement Activity: For those who teach an LSU Online course, you can continue to use the Academic Engagement Activity (AEA) assigned during the first week of class.

Please see below for examples of academic activities (ungraded) that you can use to verify student attendance or participation.

  • Example 1: Academic Reflection Instructions. We hope you are enjoying this [insert this class]. What are two things that you have learned in the class so far? Complete by [insert date].
  • Example 2: Knowledge Pre-Check Instructions. Please answer based on what you know right now—no need to look anything up. Complete by [insert date]. In one sentence, describe what you think [insert main term, maybe title of course] (example: child development) means. List two factors you believe influence [insert main idea from course] (for example: how children grow and learn).

Workday Instructions

A task will appear in Workday to complete this action. Please record the results in Workday by the deadline for your course. Instructions on how to verify student attendance in Workday are listed below:

All records related to student attendance or participation must be retained for three (3) years for audit purposes.

Failure to verify attendance for your students may result in loss of federal financial aid for the student and could create outstanding account balances.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Jessica Ott, Deputy Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships, via email at jott@lsu.edu.
